Sanctions implying "costs" resulting in an opportunity for the sanctioned to invest toward solutions that work for them? Is that really what we want to do to preserve or promote US interests? Short-sighted decision-making can become nefast to our long-term interests. Decision proposals need to be studied further as to the hypothetically different responses that could ensue before taking them. The real issue with the sanctions that these two are not pointing out is that these sanctions are giving incentive for the rest of the world to reduce their dependence on these US controlled networks. Other countries have seen what these two are talking about for years.

If the US systematically abused its influence over global finance, the developed democracies (EU, UK, Australia, Canada, Japan, S. Korea, Taiwan, Israel) would have developed an alternative financial system.

They are talking about the "weaponization" as if it is a positive thing.
